  • ETX Capital invites players to beat their top trader and win £20,000
  • Players day trade with a virtual account, aiming to outperform Mic Mills, a 30-year market veteran
  • Competition runs for five days, from Monday, November 17.
  • ETX Capital, the global spread trading firm, is offering a £20,000 jackpot for day traders who can beat their star trader, Mic Mills.

The free-to-enter competition opens on Monday, November 17 2008, and runs for five consecutive days. Players are given a virtual £20,000, which they can invest in a broad range of assets including equities, bonds, indices, currencies and commodities.

Their aim? To maximise their portfolio by the end of the day, and more importantly, beat Mic. At the end of each day, all players’ accounts are re-set back to £20,000 and the fun begins again.

There are daily prizes for the best performers, and anyone who beats Mic on any of the five days of competition enters the prize draw for the £20,000 jackpot.

Mic is a 30-year veteran of the markets, and has worked at Cazenove & Co. and Tullet as well as ETX Capital. In addition to London, he has also worked in Zurich, Frankfurt and New York

Mic has a sophisticated trading strategy: ‘I’m going to hit and hope,’ he says. ‘Obviously, my approach is going to be very different to what I’d do if I was managing real money. I’m going to be looking mainly at foreign exchange, indices and commodities, which have the potential for much bigger daily swings than equities. I’m going to be trading off news – if anyone important opens their mouth, sell.

‘My advice for other players is: don’t chase your losses, but be wary of taking profits too early. Be brave – you can have a lot of fun with this.’
