They say running your own enterprise is a competitive business, so too is running a marathon. One man who has successfully managed to do both and to fundraise for charity is Davin McAnaney, Carrickmines, Co Dublin.

Davin McAnaney of Paddy Power

On the 28th of September Davin McAnaney, Commerical Manager of Paddy Power Trader ran the 35th Berlin Marathon raising a total of €4,000 euro for the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) Charity. The 26 mile run was the culmination of months training for the senior executive at the Dublin based Bookmaker Paddy Power. Despite having an intense dislike for running, Davin completed the crippling 26 mile course in just over 5 hours, nevertheless he is quick to point out that success is a journey, not a destination.

(NFTE) is an international non profit organisation with almost twenty years experience of teaching entrepreneurship skills to young people. NFTE Ireland, spearheaded by successful entrepreneur Liavan Mallin, has been established as an all island initiative, following a successful pilot scheme in Colaiste Dhulaigh and Bonnybrook Youthreach.

NFTE Ireland’s goal is to reach over 8,000 young people living in disadvantaged areas in Dublin & Belfast & Limerick by 2012.

With 4 start ups under his belt, Davin has much experience as a young entrepreneur himself and is keen to share not just his skills at running with young entrepreneurs in disadvantaged areas. ‘NFTE epitomises the type of help and training that young entrepreneurs need in Ireland today. This non-profit organisation is crucial to the development of enterprise in the 21st century,’ said Davin McAnaney back in Dublin with his medal this week.

‘I hope that the money raised will go towards supporting young entrepreneurs currently incubating in Ireland. Many thanks also to all of my supporters.’

‘We are delighted to accept the proceeds of Davin’s running efforts and are thrilled that he chose to highlight our organisation. NFTE is vital to Ireland and its young people, particularly in the current economic climate as it teaches fundamental business & enterprise skills which will create the next generation of entrepreneurs. This donation will ensure that young entrepreneurs in disadvantaged areas are inspired and encouraged,’ said Keelin O’Donnell on behalf of NFTE Ireland.

NFTE was first established in the US by businessman Steve Mariotti who demonstrated that showing young people how to make money through setting up and running their own business could enable them to make a better future for themselves. NFTE is now an international organisation bringing its experience to youth worldwide & to date over 200,000 young people have been empowered across the globe.

Thoughts: A bit of public relations but still a noble deed from Paddy Power.
