Sports Betting > Betting Systems (2)
Hi Andy, I wanted to ask you about the different strategies/sports betting systems people use to bet in-running on sports matches.
I have tried quite a few sports betting systems without much success. A strategy I have tried is backing the favourite and then laying it off on a betting exchange when the price gets shorter. However if the price does not get shorter then I back the favourite again with a heavier stake to dilute the price and then lay it off.
It would be good to hear your views! - Tom.
Hi Tom,
I have used the sports system you mention with small stakes for favourites in small field horse races (sports betting), where decent liquidity is more likely.
Backing an early morning price is risky but it can work - laying it just before the race. The beauty of this method is that you need know nothing about horses or form, etc...so I qualify in all those requirements.
I have only made very little per race, often having to accept a lay price that would only return my 'to win' stake, if the horse lost. To make any decent amount you would need to risk £100+ per race, and I know of sports professionals who place £1000 lays, regularly, and make it their 'living'.
There are sports punters who are much more experienced and qualified to comment in more detail about specific methods than I am and I will be checking with them as well and revert back to you on the strategies they use.
In my own specialised area of football spread betting I bet in-running on total goals, by 'selling' at, say, 2.5 before the match, and providing no goals are scored in the first 30 minutes, trading out, (the equivalent of 'laying'), for a small profit. If an early goal is scored, you have to hope that the 'spread' or 'price', (odds offered), go back down during the remainder of the match. I am certain that you can do a similar thing on the betting exchanges.
This is a risky strategy, but still profitable if you are selective about the matches you trade in.
Hope this helps, good luck.... -:)
