Spread betting is a method of investing in the uk. At the present time all profits from spreadbetting are tax free because it is considered betting like poker wins. However, the price of the best of the spread betting firms closely mirror what is out there in the real world and spreads are similar. It is a great way to trade and it comes into its own if you are profitable.

Many consider spread betting risky but it is not really risky in itself. Trading is risky. Spread Betting is a way to facilitate trading. I still don't understand why people make statements such as spread betting is for short-term moves. You can trade any time-frame, but you must have a plan. Spread betting allows you to place a guaranteed stop loss point so that you can't lose more than you are comfortable with, as occasionally markets will jump past or ‘gap’ through a stop loss.

The downside is that you pay through the sometimes large spread that the spread betting company quotes. That is another reason not to trade very short time frames. Try to capture a larger move, which will save on commission costs and is far less stressful. Finally don't be seduced into thinking that any form of trading short or long term is a ‘get rich quick’ scheme. It takes many years of learning to find what style suits your personality and you will probably lose money in the beginning. Simply put it is not easy. Ultimately you will need a trading plan which you fully understand and then comes the hard part..sticking to it.
